A Resolution

To express for our support for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Alliance at Capital University:

Section 1

Whereas the committee on Multicultural Affairs has the responsibility to advocate for the rights and tolerance of all minority student interests at Capital University,

Section 2

Whereas the Student Senate is charged with addressing and encouraging activities of minority student organizations,

Section 3. Whereas by stating our support, we recognize the importance of honoring all aspects of diversity throughout the Capital University community,

Section 4

Whereas there is evidence of increasing acts of intolerance toward Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Students on the Capital University campus,

Section 5

Whereas we are an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) affiliated institution, the ELCA does not disapprove of homosexuality.

Section 6

Whereas Capital, as an inclusive university "must respect all members of our campus community regardless of race, ethnic origin, gender, age, religion, disability, or sexual orientation"... "In the same sense that we are called to support the mission of Christian higher education, we are also called to commit our energies and resources to the continual task of combating both subtle and obvious intolerance." (Capital University "Human Dignity Policy")

Therefore; let it be resolved that:

The Student Senate of Capital University shall express support for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Alliance, and encourage the Student Senate to uphold its constitution in supporting student diversity, to create an environment that is welcoming for all members of the campus community.
