Student Government Vice-President
One
of Student Government's goals this year is for students to know
what their Student Government does for them during the school year.
One way that Student Government will do this is via the Internet
starting in October.
Our
new web page will include monthly updates of meeting minutes, meeting
agendas and dockets, current student initiatives, and upcoming events.
You
will also have the chance to fill out student input forms to keep
Student Government informed of what the needs are of the students.
Student Government related articles that you may have missed in
The Chimes and the Purple & White will also be
available.
We
would like to thank the Public Relations Office and the Student
Activities Office for all of their cooperation and help on this
process.

Student Government Speaker
Student
Government is off to a great start for the 2002-2003 academic year.
Both the Student Senate and the Executive Branch have defined their
roles, responsibilities, and goals at fall retreats, and all members
have been hard at work to make these goals a reality.
This
is the third year for this form of Student Government, and kinks
are still being worked out. It is, however, running quite smoothly
thanks to the very dedicated members: thirty Senators, a Public
Relations coordinator, seven Secretaries, and a superb President
and Vice-President team. Student Government has pledged to keep
students informed of the issues we are pursuing. This newsletter
is only one of the ways. The Student Senate meeting dates are listed
at the end of this newsletter. Anyone is welcome to attend the meetings,
and a public comment portion allows for students to speak on a bill
before the senate, or on any matter you feel the Senate should look
in to.
I
am anticipating a successful and productive year for Student Government.
I encourage all students to take an active role in getting involved
by staying informed of the issues and voicing concerns, opinions,
and ideas.

Input Countes |

Student
Government is continually working to obtain input from students
and to address student concerns. This year the Executive Branch
is pleased to announce a Student Government Feedback campaign.
One
day each month, Senators will be available in the Learning
Center and the Main Dining Room for students to stop by and
voice their opinion or to fill out a comment card. Comment
cards are also available in our office in the Campus Center.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Chair, Academic Affairs Committee
College
Bowl is an academic competition similar to a high school's quiz
team. Teams of five must beat their opponents on the buzzer to answer
trivia questions.
The
Academic Affairs committee has already spent and will spend many
more hours hoping to make this year's tournament even more successful
than last year's, which saw six teams battle it out.
The
campus tournament is currently scheduled for mid-January. The winner
of the campus tournament becomes the official Capital University
College Bowl team and represents Capital in the Regional Tournament
at Bowling Green. For those of you who have questions, they will
be answered at an informational meeting the week we return from
winter break.
Report From
the Subcommittee on Educational Support
By
Steven Druckenmiller, 05
Chair, Subcommittee on Educational Support
Many
projects and initiatives are in the works for this year. We are
focused on serving the students and making campus life easier and
more pleasant.
One
current project that we are working with the administration on is
the flooding in the Learning Center basement. The Subcommittee is
committed to correctingthe problem.
Another
initiative we are working is looking at the upgrade of equipment
in classrooms. This was as initiative last year and is a priority
this year, because
proficient classrooms are essential to the learning
atmosphere.
Many
other projects and initiaitves are in the works for this year. Remember,
your Subcommittee on Educational Support cares about your learning
environment.

Imagine
a freshman class with more unity and spirit than any other class.
Imagine a class that sets itself one above the rest. Imagine Corps
2006 representing this class. This year, in just six short weeks,
the Corps 2006 Executive Board has been diligently working for all
of the first year students. The group hosted a very successful Student
Organizations Fair and is cosponsoring several upcoming homecoming
events. The group is working hard to program for Halloween, the
Christmas Tree Lighting, and CapFest 2006 as well as a variety of
new events to bring to the Cap Community.
Corps
2006 is here to help you, as an individual, and the class as a group
with the challenges and obstacles we face. We are here for you and
will be soon requesting that you give us feedback on your experience
so far. What do you think needs done? Do you have any problems?
We want to know, and we will act on your concerns! Please take this
seriously as this is your organization. Commuters, you are not forgotten.
Your Commuter Representatives have compiled a survey that can be
found in the Commuter Lounge. Please give us your feedback.
As
the year moves forward, we ask that you question the unquestionable
and think the unthinkable. Keep an open mind in this very important
time of your life. College will not last forever, so communicate,
educate, and most of all have fun! Corps 2006 is the organization
for first year students. Please, use us to your advantage!
As
a Co-Chair of the organization, I speak for us all when I say thank
you to the students of the Class of 2006 thus far. No other class
has seen such great leadership oriented, hard working, and opinionated
students here at Capital! Congratulations! I look forward to a great
year and anticipate excellent trend setting by the class of 2006!
