Call to Order

Robert C. Van Schoyck called the meeting to order at 7:35 in the
GSA Room of the Blackmore Library.

about the Capital Master Plan

Committee Reports
Academic
Affairs Committee –Sen. Chris Burton, Chair
The Committee met with 6 of 6 Senators present along with the
Secretary
-
Senator Burton sent a memo to the PEC concerning the passing
of SR #101; he was then informed that all calendar changes have
been put on hold indefinitely.

The Reception for Dr. Eubanks will be held on November 11th,
2003

Senator Harmon met with Don Miller about the costs for College
Bowl
Multicultural
Affairs Committee –Sen. Kris Wong, Chair
The Committee met with 5 of 6 Senators present along with the
Secretary

The Committee received a calendar of multicultural events
Student
Interests Committee –Sen. Eric Bowman, Chair
The Committee met with 5 of 6 Senators present and no Secretary

The Committee has made progress with environmental issues
-
Looking into Christian concerts/artists to have at Capital
Student
Life Committee –Sen. Shane Gunnoe, Chair
The Committee met with 7 of 8 Senators present and no Secretary

The Student organization Room Task Force has one room available
- The
Committee has selected the members for the Public Safety Committee
- Looking
into expanding the hours of facilities around campus
Finance,
Planning & Development Committee –Sen. Daniel Meyers,
Chair
The Committee met with 2 of 2 members present and no Secretary

The Committee has handed out an updated budget
- Funded
the CUSATA Trip and CUES

Discussed ideas for the Board of Trustees meeting on November
10th, 2003
Judiciary
Committee – Sen. Andrew Acree, Chair
The Committee has chosen a Traffic Court
The Committee asks that the Senate consider the two excellent
candidates that they have placed before the Senate for approval.
V.
Subcommittee Reports
Curriculum
and Undergraduate Faculty –Sen. Candi Harmon, Chair
- Sen.
York attended a meeting of the Conservatory Council

The petition for having Latin as a language has been sent with
more signatures than were needed
-
The Subcommittee is examining the Professor/Student Ratio on
campus
Educational
Support –Sen. Andrew Acree, Chair
- Sen.
Druckenmiller will be meeting with Andy Abbott before the next
General Session
- Classroom
checks will be performed and sent to the building contacts
- The
Subcommittee is looking into locations for the new maps to be
placed
International
Student Affairs –Sen. Kerrie Turney, Chair

Meeting with Jennifer Adams

CURVE is having a forum about Multicultural groups next Monday
in the basement of the Lohman Complex
Minority
Student Affairs –Sen. Jennifer Ensley, Chair
- Looking
to ask AAA to donate a Cambodian flag
- CURVE
is having a meeting on Sunday night in the Multicultural Resource
Center
- SAAAC
had a meeting on October 26th, 2003 (Sunday)
Campus
Ministries –Sen. Emily DeArdo, Chair

The Campus Ministries Calendar is out
- The
survey that the Subcommittee had planned is going to be postponed
until Spring in order to garner adequate freshman feedback
- The
Subcommittee is planning on two Christian concerts: Fran McKendrie
and Lost & Found
Environmental
Concerns –Sen. Beth Fry, Chair
-
Met with Harvey Pugh; informed the Subcommittee that there are
two work-study positions available for the recycling program
- The
cost of Commons Recycling will be approximately eight-thousand
(8000) dollars. The Subcommittee is looking into the feasibility
of this
- The
Subcommittee is planning a campaign to advertise the recycling
program

Looking into increased cigarette receptacles in the inner Schaaf
lawn
Commuter
Concerns –Sen. Branden Meyer, Chair
- The
carpet passed in SB #108 will be installed the week of November
7th, 2003
- The
new Commuter Group (“On the Go”) will meet on October
28th at 4PM.
Residence
Life –Sen. Chris Williams, Chair
-
The dormitory inspections have been completed
- Will
be meeting with Dead Lovelace about new dorm room furniture
- Investigating
getting screens into the windows of the dorm bathrooms
Student
Activities –Sen. Brad Hudson, Chair
- The
Chairs that the Senate purchased have been assembled
-
Trying to get Computers into the Student Organizations Resource
Space
- Cleaning
the furniture in said room
- Looking
to appoint a Non-Greek Clerk for the Greek Council
VI.
New Business
There are two new candidates for the open Senate Seats
- Kimberly
Reinangel was appointed to fill the open seat on Finance, Planning
and Development by a vote of 25-1
- Jason
Lyons was appointed to fill the open seat on Student Life by
a vote of 24-2
Senate
Bill #105 has been withdrawn by its author
Senate Bill #111 has been withdrawn by its author
Senate Bill #112
- The
Bill was introduced by Senator Meyers
- Senator
Burton motions to postpone the bill until the first meeting
of January

Sen. Smith moves to close debate on the motion

Hudson moves to close debate by unanimous consent

motion to close debate passes by a vote of 18-4
The motion to postpone the bill is APPROVED by a vote of 15-7.
Senate Bill #112 will come before the Senate for re-consideration
on the first meeting in January

your commitment to Student Government and stay all the way through

Meyers asks that Senators give Vice-President Aungst feedback
about his proposal to garner more funds for Student Government

Sen. Burton asks that anyone interested in the Calendar Change
issue please see him

President Freeman informs the Senate that the T-Shirts are on
the way
-
We all should thank Senators Hudson and Williams for giving
a memoriam for Rod Roddy, the announcer for “The Price
is Right”. Roddy died of a heart attack after suffering
through colon and breast cancer. He was 66.
