Call to Order
Speaker
Robert C. Van Schoyck called the meeting to order at 7:33PM in
the GSA Room of the Blackmore Library.

Reading & Approval of Minutes
The
minutes were approved without any changes

Public Comment
Colin
Miller, chair of the Food Committee, discussed various issues
with the food services this year, including changes to the food,
renovations to the Crusader Club, and the complete overhaul of
the Main Dining Room. Mr. Miller asks that anyone interested in
the Food Committee contact him {cmiller@capital.edu,
extension 7755 and/or box #417}
IV.
Committee Reports
Academic
Affairs Committee –Sen. Chris Burton, Chair
Held meeting last Tuesday with 6 of 6 senators and Secretary Eric
Leath present at the meeting. The Committee has several bills
on the docket, including the resolution about graduation ceremonies
and a resolution honoring Dr. Ray Eubanks. Senators Harmon and
Zakrzewski will be meeting with Don Miller about College Bowl.
Multicultural
Affairs Committee –Sen. Kris Wong, Chair
The Committee failed to meet between General Sessions.
Student
Interests Committee –Sen. Eric Bowman, Chair
Held meeting with 3 of 6 senators present and no secretary. The
Campus Ministries surveys are going out this week. Sen. Bowman
met with Doug Pugh, the head of the Recycling Task Force.
Student
Life Committee –Sen. Shane Gunnoe, Chair
Held meeting with 8 of 8 senators present but no secretary. Discussed
the second floor plans of the Campus Center with Don Miller. Announced
that the Crusader Club will be closed until October 21st. The
Committee is currently taking applications for the Public Safety
Committee. The Senators are also working on increasing the hours
that the Campus Center is open.
Finance,
Planning & Development Committee –Sen. Daniel Meyers,
Chair
Held meeting with 2 of 2 senators present but no secretary. The
Committee is looking into keeping more facilities on campus open
later. Also, the committee approved $150 for an Alpha Kappa Alpha
(“Evening with the Greeks”) event, to be held on October
23rd.
Judiciary
Committee – Sen. Andrew Acree, Chair
The Committee has chosen a Traffic Court for this year, and has
also sent out letters to all submitted candidates for the open
Senate Seat.
V.
Subcommittee Reports
Curriculum
and Undergraduate Faculty –Sen. Candi Harmon, Chair
Held meeting with 3 of 3 senators in attendance. Sen. Harmon passed
out a petition to get an idea of the interest in having Latin
as a foreign language. Sen. Zakrzewski is having a meeting with
Dr. Keller about adding a modern foreign language. Sen. Harmon
asks for recommendations for Faculty Resolutions.
Educational Support –Sen. Andrew Acree, Chair
Held meeting with 3 of 3 senators present. Sen. Druckenmiller
is meeting with Andy Abbott next week to discuss the feasibility
of: 1) more computers in dorm labs and 2) instituting mandatory
anti-viral software to new computers introduced to CAPnet. There
is a bill about new classroom maps on the docket tonight.
International
Student Affairs –Sen. Kerrie Turney, Chair
The Subcommittee failed to meet. Sen. Turney is calling the Flag
Lady about a Cambodian flag.
Minority
Student Affairs –Sen. Jennifer Ensley, Chair
The Subcommittee failed to meet. Sen. Ensley talked to Jennifer
Adams about a Cambodian flag.
Campus
Ministries –Sen. Emily DeArdo, Chair
The Subcommittee failed to meet. The Subcommittee is sending out
surveys to campus ministry leadership and conducting one to the
general public.
Environmental
Concerns –Sen. Beth Fry, Chair
Held meeting with 3 of 3 senators present. Attempted to meet with
the Recycling Task Force about recycling at the commons. Told
that this will be more feasible next semester. The Subcommittee
is going to increase awareness about recycling and try to put
recycling bins on residence floors.
Commuter
Concerns –Sen. Branden Meyer, Chair
The Subcommittee met twice, with 3 of 3 senators in attendance
both times. There is a bill on the docket about carpeting the
Recreation Center in order to create a new commuter lounge.
Residence
Life –Sen. Chris Williams, Chair
Held meeting with 3 of 3 senators present. The Subcommittee looked
at dorm conditions in Saylor-Ackerman, and is looking to increase
the publicity of the Subcommittee’s availability.
Student
Activities –Sen. Brad Hudson, Chair
Held meeting with 2 of 2 senators present. The Chairs for that
the Senate allocated money have arrived. Sen. Hudson asks that
SG personnel volunteer to assemble said chairs. The Subcommittee
will be moving the art/banner supplies into the basement of the
Campus Center, and is meeting with IT about getting computers
in the “Student Organizations Resource Center”.

with Student Government

Freeman encourages people to approach her about her opinions
on specific matters
- The
next issue of the Chimes will contain the SG newsletter
Senator Meyers announces that the forms for reimbursement for
purchases are available in the Student Government Office.

Advisor’s Remarks
The
Advisor thanked everyone for the cards in light of her accident.
The Advisor asks that everyone consider issues carefully, and
reminded the Senate that trial runs may not work because nothing
really works the first time it is attempted
