Leadership
Development
The
Student Activities and Orientation Office (SAO) is committed to
offering numerous opportunities to Cap students to help prepare
them for the work force and to become citizens of character and
integrity.
Spring Leadership
Conference
Every
spring, the SAO pulls together student leaders from around campus.
The conference offers students the opportunity to share ideas, hear
from keynote speakers, and develop plans to successfully develop
their skills throughout the remainder of the year.
Leadership
Workshop Series
The
SAO sponsors a monthly Leadership Development Series for student
organization officers and students involved in organizations. Topics
range from running effective meetings, to motivation, to delegation.

Campus-wide
service projects
Twice
annually the Cap community comes together to give back to the greater
Columbus area. In October, the Cap community participates in Make
A Difference Day, and works with local nonprofit agencies during
this national day of service.
In
April, Into the Streets brings students, faculty and staff into
service by working on different projects in Columbus to better the
community we live in.
Recognition
of Student Leaders
SAO
cultivates numerous student leaders throughout the year. In showing
appreciation for the great accomplishments for these students, the
SAO offers several ways to recognize them.
The
End of the Year Student Reception and Student Organization President's
Dessert are just a couple of the ways that we thank and recognize
our outstanding students.
Leadership
Development Center
Located
in the Harry C. Moores Campus Center lobby, the resource center
offers numerous resources for student leaders. Everything from student
organization forms, to advice on time management to effective delegation
can be found in the valuable resource area.
SAO
staff are also available to meet with you to review any of these
documents or help you find other resources.
Emerging Leaders
Program
Making
the transition from high school to college can be challenging. This
program will give you skills to be a great collegiate leader.
The
Emerging Leaders Program is designed to identify 15-30 Capital students
that may be developing excellent leadership skills, but are looking
for an outlet to use them.
The
SAO staff will assist in increasing your competence level through
networking and activities that will help prepare you for life after
graduation. Whether you are an athlete, student organization officer
or a leader on your residence hall floor, this program may be for
you.
