SUMMER HOUSING INFORMATION

Summer Housing will be held in the Capital Commons Apartments where up to four students may be assigned to each apartment on a first come first serve basis. Because of limited housing there will be no single rooms available. Roommate requests will be honored when the request is mutual and received in writing. All units of the Capital Commons Apartments are non-smoking.

The Capital Commons Apartments are two bedroom, one bath with a kitchen. Each bedroom is furnished with a standard twin sized bed and mattress, dresser, desk, and chair. Meal Plans are not provided during the summer. Local phone service, a computer port, wireless access, and cable TV service is provided in the apartments by the University's Information Technology department. Residents will need to supply their own telephone, TV and computers.

Capital University does not furnish washing machines and dryers for Capital Commons apartments. However, residents are permitted to install these appliances. The university reserves the right to inspect all installations, as well as require alterations to ensure the equipment and installation meets the City of Bexley housing codes and regulations. Residents are solely responsible for the safe installation, maintenance, operation, and removal of appliances. Residents are also solely responsible and liable for any property damage, including damage resulting from fire, injury, or loss relating to the installation, maintenance or operation of appliances. The Facilities Management Department may be contacted for consultation and any necessary maintenance needed to existing conditions resulting from the installation/operation of such units, or the abandonment of any appliances. Upon vacating the apartment, a $100 charge will be divided among all residents for any required maintenance or abandoned appliances.

ELIGIBILITY: Housing is available for undergraduate students only. Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

  • Enrolled in Summer undergraduate classes at Capital University (Verification of registration must be provided with your application)
  • Current Capital University student who is employed in the Columbus area for the summer. (Verification of employment must be provided with your application)
  • Current Capital University International Student

COST: Summer Residents will be billed $115 per week for housing. The total amount of your housing will be applied to your Capital University student account. The total amount will include the number of weeks of housing requested multiplied by the cost per week. Payments arrangements should be discussed directly with the Finance Office.

CHECK-IN/OUT: Students must complete a proper check-in by contacting the Residence Life Staff member in their assigned apartment. Upon check-out, the room must be returned to the original clean condition. Students will need to complete a room inventory, return room keys, and complete necessary paperwork with a designated Residence Life Staff member.

BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS: The Capital University Student Code of Conduct is intended to promote community standards and foster the development of self directed, responsible citizens. To learn more about the Capital University Student Code of Conduct, other University policies, and minimum sanction guidelines, please visit the Office of Student Rights and Standards website at www.insidecapital.edu and click Services.

INSURANCE: The University is not responsible for loss, damage, or destruction of the Student's personal property. Purchasing or arranging for personal property insurance coverage is the Student's responsibility.

MOVE-IN: Current Capital University students will be permitted to move into the Capital Commons Apartments on Sunday, May 10, 2009 from 2-6pm (by pre-scheduled appointment only). All other move-in dates will be by appointment only through the Residence Life and Housing Office. Further information regarding move-in will be sent with your summer housing confirmation letter via email. Please make sure you provide an active email address on your summer housing application.

MOVE-OUT: Students who are enrolled in Summer classes must vacate the Capital Commons Apartments no later than July 18th by 12:00 p.m. Students who are employed and who are not living on campus for the Fall 2009 Semester must vacate the Capital Commons Apartments no later than July 31st. These deadlines are in place to provide the Office of Residence Life & Housing and Facilities with adequate time to prepare for the next academic year housing.

TERMINATION: The Office of Residence Life and Housing may terminate your contract and, after serving the Student with a written notice to vacate the premises, take possession thereof for the following reasons: 1) Non-compliance with University policies, residence hall policies and procedures, local, federal and state laws where applicable, 2) Damage from fire, smoke, or other causes making the premises uninhabitable.
