Scanner Instructions

HINTS
- If you have more than one image, scan and save
them all before FTP-ing.
- You can click and drag a box around the portion
of your image that you wish to save. Next, click on IMAGE
- CROP - TO MASK to get rid of extra space and reduce
the size of your saved file. (Do this BEFORE saving your image).
- DON'T FORGET TO RETRIEVE YOUR ITEM
FROM THE SCANNER AND REMOVE YOUR DISK FROM THE FLOPPY DRIVE!
Library, Math or Nursing Scanner Instructions
- Place the image face down in the upper right corner of the scanner
and close the lid.
- To simply scan & save your image, press the GREEN button at
the scanner base. This opens the "HP Precision Scan Pro"
window displaying scanned image.
- You may need to select OUTPUT TYPE from the menu to set
the desired output for your image. Some possible choices include:
- True Color---output selection as a 24-bit color image.
- Grayscale---output selection as an 8-bit grayscale
image.
- Text---output selection as editable text.
- Click the scanned image to show the selection area (dotted lines).
The selection area may be adjusted to a specific area of your
image. Point to the dotted lines (double-arrow) & click
& drag the dotted lines to your desired position. This creates
a border around the image you wish to save & eliminates any excess
background from the saved image.
- Click the [ZOOM SCAN] button (or click ZOOM from the
SCAN menu) to rescan & enlarge your selection area.
- Click the [SAVE AS] button (or click SAVE AS from
the SCAN menu) to open the "Save As"
window.
- Three items are required for saving your image:
- Enter a name for your image into the "Filename" text
box.
- Click the drop-down arrow for the "Save As Type"
list & select a graphic format for your image. JPEG is recommended
for color images & GIF for black & white images.
- Click the drop-down arrow for the "Save In:" list
& choose a location for saving your image (this is usually
the floppy disk, drive-A).
- Once the 3 items above have been selected, click the [SAVE]
button to store image.
- Repeat steps 1-8 for any additional images.
- When complete, close the "HP Precision Scan Pro"
window. Don't forget to retrieve your image from the scanner &
to remove your disk from drive-A.

Lab 231 Scanner Instructions
- Using the mouse, double click the Corel PHOTO-PAINT 6
short-cut icon. If no short-cut exists, click [START], highlight
"PROGRAMS", highlight "Corel PHOTO-PAINT 6", and click "Corel
PHOTO-PAINT 6" from the cascade menu.
- Using the mouse, click FILE....click ACQUIRE
IMAGE....click ACQUIRE. This will open a
Desk Scan II window.
- Place the image in the upper right corner of the scanner face
down (by the green arrow) and close the lid.
- Click the [Preview] button. Image displays in
right side of window with a thin box around it.
- You can click on a side of the box and drag the side to the
position you want, creating a border around the image.
- When everything you want to scan is within the box, click the
[Final] button.
- Click the [COREL PHOTO-PAINT] button on taskbar (Button with
Camera on it).
- You can now edit the image using Corel Photo Paint.
- Once editing is complete, click FILE and SAVE
from the menu.
- Click the drop-down (black) arrow next to "Save As Type:" text
box. Press the keyboard [UP arrow] until the line JPEG Bitmaps
(JPG) is highlighted.
(Not all web browsers support the default filetype CPT. Most
do support JPEG)
- Click in the text box next to "Filename:". Use the [Backspace]
key to erase the current default filename. Your image should
be saved to floppy disk so you can take the image file with you
after scanning. Now type A:\ followed by the
name you wish to call your image. (Example: a:\mypic)
- Click the [Save] button to store the image on
your floppy disk.
- A window titled JPEG Export opens. Click the [OK]
button.
- Image is now saved to your disk. Now you can FTP image to your
web account.
- Done scanning? Exit Corel PHOTO-PAINT by selecting EXIT
from the FILE menu.
