CD Writer

The Easy CD Creator software allows you to format a CD and then use it as you would use a floppy disk. The CD has more storage space than the regular floppy or ZIP disk so you will be able to store more items on it.

How To Copy onto a CD:

Before copying onto the CD, it is important to know what type of CD you will be using. CD-R CD's are write-once media, which means that once you copy something onto that CD, it cannot be erased. A CD-RW is a rewritable CD, which means thay you can copy and erase items onto it as you would normally with a floppy disk. However, before you are to use the CD-RW, you must first format the CD, which can take up to an hour or more. After the formatting is finished, you are then able to use the CD like you would use a floppy. If you are using a CD-R CD, you still have to format your CD except that you will not have the same options after formatting as you would with the CD-RW.

Directions for CD-R CD's:

**Remember, any information that you save on the CD cannot be erased.**
  1. Insert the CD into drive-F on the computer and then double click on the Easy CD Creator icon on the desktop.
  2. The Easy CD Creator window will appear and ask you what type of information you are going to be saving on the CD, either data or audio. Choose the appropriate one and then click next.
  3. The next window that appears will ask you to choose the files that you are going to save on the disk. Click which ones you want to save and click the add now button. Repeat this step for all the files you wish to add to the CD.
  4. Follow the instructions that are provided to finish copying the data onto the CD.

How to format a CD-RW CD:

  1. Insert the CD into drive-F on the computer and double click on the My Computer icon on the desktop.
  2. Right click on drive-F (should have a picture of a CD). Scroll down and click on format.
  3. Follow the instructions provided to erase the CD and format it. This process can take up to an hour and possibly more. After it is done, you can save on it as you would with a floppy disk.

Instructions for CD-RW CD's:

**Remember, before copying onto the CD-RW, you must first format the CD.**
  1. After you have formatted the CD, you will only be able to copy and delete files in the CD Writer Plus Drive (Drive-F). The regular CD-ROM drive is not formatted to read these Cd's. So, you will be able to copy onto the CD in Windows Explorer if you have the CD in drive-F and not in the regular CD-ROM drive (Drive-D).
  2. To get your regular CD-ROM to read the CD-RW's after you have formatted them, you must download some software from the Adaptec website, www.adaptec.com/support/files/udfreaders.html. By going to this site and downloading the version based upon whether you have a Macintosh computer or a Windows based computer, you will be able to run the CD-RW CD's in the your regular CD-ROM drive.
  3. After you have downloaded the software needed or if you are in the CD Writer Plus (Drive-F), you can use Windows Explorer and follow the same steps for copying files as you would for a floppy disk. You can also use Windows Explorer to erase the CD and start over again.
  4. If you do not want to use Windows Explorer to copy and delete files, you can follow the same steps as you would for the CD-R CD's by using the Easy CD Creator.
