Overhead Projector Relamping Guide

Beseler model 15710 with FAL lamp

This procedure refers to a specific variation on the Beseler 15710, which is similar to the other Daylight/Beseler models except that it uses an FAL lamp instead of a DYS. The FAL lamp is the one on the right in the illustration.

Relamping Procedure

CAUTION:Before opening the housing and replacing a burned-out lamp, be sure the lamp has cooled thoroughly. Unplug the power cord if possible before changing the lamp.

Opening the projector

There are various latching mechanisms used for these projectors. Some have no locking mechanism at all, some have a knurled thumbscrew at the rear center of the case, some have a locking lever on the back, near the top of the stage glass, and some...like the one shown here...have plungers on top that you must lift up on.

Push the latching lever, lift up on the plungers, or completely remove the thumbscrew, as appropriate, to unlatch the top of the projector.

Now lift up on the back edge of the stage glass frame. The top of the projector will hinge open, revealing the innards of the projector.

Removing the burned-out lamp

The lamp fits on posts suspended between the two ceramic lamp holders at the center of the lamphouse. To remove the old lamp, grasp the lamp at its center, and push it gently towards one of the lamp holders. This will disengage the lamp from the opposite end, so that you can easily tip it out of the lamphouse.

Installing the new lamp

Important: For optimum lamp life and performance, do not touch the quartz (glass) bulb of the lamp. The oils in your skin will attack the quartz and cause the lamp to fail prematurely.

The lamp comes in a sealed plastic bag. One edge of this bag has a perforation on it. With the lamp still in the plastic bag, grasp the center of the lamp and tear the perforated end off of the bag. Manipulate the lamp so that the ceramic ends protrude through the open end of the bag. Grasping the lamp through the plastic, seat one end of the lamp on one of the lamp holder pins. Gently push the lamp towards that pin and tilt the other end into place, and release the lamp to hold against the spring-loaded contacts. Notice that the contact pins fit nicely into the depressions at the ends of the lamp. Once the lamp is fully seated in the socket, completely remove and discard the plastic bag.

Closing the projector

Close the projector by pushing down on the stage assembly, then reinstalling the thumbscrew, pushing down on the plunger latch, or allowing the latch knob to engage, as appropriate. Make sure the projector is plugged into an electrical outlet, and test it by turning it on. It should light up. Your work here is finished!
