Curriculum
Design in Nursing

This
course focuses on the design of teaching and learning experiences
that are congruent with mission, philosophy and goals. Components
of the course include: Curriculum frameworks, lesson plans, learning
objectives, measurement of learning outcomes and curriculum evaluation.
Students will demonstrate the ability to implement teaching/learning
strategies from a list of approved field activities.

Use
of Technology In
Education

This
course addresses the use of technology in nursing education and
builds on an understanding of computer informatics. Components of
the course include: course management systems, distance learning,
online learning, interactive television, criteria for selecting
and using various forms of media, and the legal and ethical issues
related to the use of technology.

Family
& Culture Theory
NUR642
4 credit hours
This
course will assist students to examine and conceptualize cultural
theories from nursing and family theories from multiple disciplines,
including nuring, sociology, psychology, and psychiatry. Students
will learn to assess and intervene with famliies from multiple
perpectives, including family developmental theory (CFLC), natural
systems theory (Bowen), selected concepts from gneeral systems
theory (GST), the resiliency model, and sibling position. The
influence of culture, ethnicity, lifestyle preference, and economic
status on family structure and functioning will be discussed.
Family and cultural theories and quantitative and qualitative
family-based and culture-based research will be critiqued.
Community
Theory
NUR652
4 credit hours
This course will assist students in integrating public health
science with nursing science for the purpose of understanding both
the core functions of public health and advanced community health
nursing. This understanding wil provide the theoretical foundation
for discussion of application of the nurisng process in various community
settings as well as for future learning activities in the community
during Nursing 661. The class will meet 3 hours wekly and participate
in a 2-hour weekly on-line seminar.

Care of Famlies and Communities

2 credit hours
This course will challenge
the student to use family, community, and cultural theories in select
community settings. Emphasis will be on assessment process and nursing
care to families, groups, and special populations. Principles of
evidence based practice (EBP) will provide the foundation for nursing
interventions. The 2 hour course will span 8 weeks with 3 hours weekly
of field experiences and 2 hours of class. Legal

prerequisite knowledge for selected law courses in the legal concentrate
offers substantial legal foundation for students in the administration
and occupational health nursing concentrates

Health Assessment Practicum: Children and Adolescents
