Annex E (Communications) to OPORD 02-3 (Ranger Challenge 2002)
1. Task: Communicate via a Tactical Radio 113-637-2001 (SL1) as modified
below.
2. Condition: Given an operational radio set (SINCGARS, IHFR, VRC-12 series, handheld radio, etc.), with call signs, a written message to send and an operational distant station (notional, RCE will act as distant station).
3. Standard: Establish voice communications with the distant tactical radio/network, within 3 minutes.
4. Evaluation Preparation:
a. Provide the cadet with all of the resource materials listed in the condition statement.
b. Briefing: Tell the cadet that he or she will be required to establish voice communications with the distant tactical radio/network, within 3 minutes. The 3 minute time limit is only an administrative training requirement.
5. Execution.
a. This task will be evaluated by the RCE during the planning phase of the tactics lane. Choose 1 cadet, not the captain, from the team to perform this task.
b. Use teams PRC-77 or PRC-119. If neither are available, the RCE will simulate by using his or her handheld radio. No points will be deducted for this, as they would have already been deducted at the PCI station.
c. RCEs will act as the distant station. Cadets will not transmit the message over the air.
d. Give the cadet the call signs for themselves and the distant station (RCE).
e. Cadet will establish communications and then send the message that
is included in the RCE’s scoresheet
