ROTC: Partners In Nursing Education
On June 3, 1996 the United States Army Cadet Command and Capital
University agreed to become Partners in Nursing Education. In order
to meet its needs for future Army Nurse Corps officers, the US Army
extended this opportunity to a few select universities and colleges.
Capital University School of Nursing was one of only 41 university
programs nationwide selected for this special honor and recognition.
The criteria included: a highly challenging academic curriculum,
a high retention and graduation rate of nurse cadets within the
Army ROTC program, and a high success rate of students passing state
nursing board exams.
There are two aspects to the Partners in Nursing Education Program.
First, the US Army Cadet Command provides at least ten 4-year Army
Nurse scholarships to Capital University each year, and the School
of Nursing agrees to accept these students into the nursing program
for 4 years. All students admitted through this program must meet
the academic standards for admission of Capital University and the
School of Nursing. Capital University has also agreed to accept
transfer students who meet the transfer criteria of the University
and the School of Nursing and to guarantee them upper division nursing
seats.
Second, Capital University awards nursing students a minor in Military
Science which includes academic credit for the Nurse Summer Training
Program completed by cadets during the summer following their junior
year.
