Out of the Past, Came the Task Force Crusaders of Today...

Capital's Army ROTC program has experienced tremendous growth within the past few years.  Its program has gone from being a cross-enrolled part of Franklin University, to becoming its own extension Army ROTC program.

Capital hosts seven partnership schools, including: Columbus College of Art and Design, Denison University, DeVry Institute of Technology, Franklin University, Ohio Dominican College, Ohio Wesleyan University and Otterbein College.

In 1992, Franklin University's professor of military science consulted with Capital University faculty concerning the need to move Army ROTC to Capital due to increased participation.  This increase was brought about by Capital's willingness to recognize Army ROTC as a positive part of the college experience.  Through further coordination and approval from both the university and Cadet Command, the department of military science became a reality at Capital University.

Significant events in the department's history include:

1993:
-Sent first Ranger Challenge Team to Brigade Competition (Division II level)

-First Rifle Team competes

-First basketball team competes at Notre Dame, IN (men and women)

1994:
-First graduating ROTC class from Capital University is commissioned as second   lieutenants

-Enrollment increased to 30+ cadets

1995:
-Ranger Challenge Team wins Division II Brigade Championship

-First Army Ten Miler Team sent to Washington, DC

1996:
-Largest commissioning class from the department is commissioned, including 10 nurses -Recognized as a Partner in Nursing Education

-Enrollment doubles to more than 60 cadets

1997:
-First Capital University female graduate from Airborne School
-Crusader Battalion unit crest approved by Institute of Heraldry
-Crusader Battalion web pages developed by Cadet Tara Withrow and Mr. Nick Carver

Army ROTC has come a long way at Capital, from 30 years ago, when only Air Force ROTC was offered.  The United States Armed Forces are back on campus with a strong presence of determined young individuals!

2003:
-Pershing Rifles is officially recognized nationally as Company Z-1.

September 2005:
-Crusader Battalion is officially renamed the Task Force Crusaders

CRUSADERS LEAD THE WAY!!!
