The College of Arts and Sciences originated in 1850. It is the oldest and most diverse of the colleges comprising Capital University. The college offers four baccalaureate degrees: bachelor of arts, bachelor of fine arts, bachelor of social work, and bachelor of general studies. Fourteen departments offer over 25 majors that lead to a bachelor of arts degree. Students also may design an individualized multidisciplinary major in coordination with a faculty committee.

Proposal forms for new courses, new minors, and new majors

Any substantive changes to curriculum within the Arts and Sciences must be reviewed and approved by the Academic Programming Committee. Proposals must be completed, signed by the appropriate department chair(s), and submitted prior to Thanksgiving break to be considered for inclusion in the following year's course catalog. Proposals received after that date may not be considered in time for inclusion.
