CCS Mission Statement

Through an innovative curriculum and undergraduate research projects, the Center for Computational Studies will attract academically talented students to Capital University. Additionally, the Center will cultivate relationships with external constituencies, seek external support for the computational studies program, and will provide educational opportunities for continuing education.

Major Strategic Goals

  1. Facilitate continuous improvement through assessment of the computational studies program
  2. Attract well qualified students (from high schools, community colleges) to Capital University to pursue computational studies along with their major
  3. Cultivate an employer pool and industry-based undergraduate research experiences/internships
  4. Analyze the marketability and develop professional certificate programs in computational studies for non-traditional students
  5. Establish network of graduate studies opportunities
    Seek external (federal, state, and corporate) funding opportunities
  6. Coordinate the offering of workshops for the professional development of in-service teachers and university professors
    Increase the visibility of Capital University’s computational studies program at the local, state and national level

The goals of the Center for Computational Studies align with a number of strategic goals of Capital University, such as:

  1. Grow and strengthen the reputation and visibility of Capital University
    · Engage in outreach activities into the larger community
    · Increase the scholarly endeavors of faculty and intellectual and professional development of students
  2. Identify and implement cost efficiencies and sources of increased revenue that will support strategic goals and objectives
    · Strategic application for outside funding
    · Develop and implement strategies for current and emerging fund-raising priorities
    · Promote entrepreneurial activities
    · Target areas of increased enrollment to generate additional net tuition revenue
    · Support initiatives that will lead to an increase in auxiliary income
  3. Improve the living and learning environment for students
    · Expand the geographic and demographic reach of our student body
    · Demonstrate quality student learning through documented assessment plan
    · Increase the number of students enrolled in the Honors Program
    · Provide additional research opportunities
    · Effectively utilize technology resources for instructional needs
  4. Strengthen the liberal and professional curricula
    · Provide evidence of quality through a comprehensive assessment plan
    · Benchmark Capital’s program against appropriate counterparts
    · Strengthen the Honors Program
